Try decoding the ‘savegame’ format from Lord Of The Rings for Super Nintendo, from the year 1994.

It’s not even a battery backup save, you gotta manually write down 48 characters, then manually re-enter those 48 characters when you want to restore a ‘savegame’

Turns out it’s in base 32 format, and uses the CCITT CRC16 hash algorithm to verify the data integrity.

Guess what? If you punch in 3P53P53P53P53P53P53P53P53P53P5

You start off with all the characters maxed out (prolly more maxed out than intended), and also bypasses the checksum, as it zeroes out.

Yay base 32!

Bleh, I’ve only ever flown a drone a few days at a time out at our city park. Then I criticize their controls and rewire the controller to be more intuitive, which lets me fly it fairly easily even in 30mph winds, but always seems to burn one of the motors up within 3 days.

I ain’t flying the things to spy on anyone, I’m just trying to improve their controls.

You missed my point. I have an older version that never required location services to begin with.

What they describe there is a new version that still requires location services, but has relaxed the rules to only give a passive warning in prohibited areas.

Fuckall with that, I keep the old version that doesn’t require location permissions at all.

That’s why I still keep an older version of the drone app that doesn’t need location privileges, on a phone that doesn’t have location services enabled, and doesn’t even have a SIM card.

I never found the extra free time to try that out though, I just stuck with the stock levels.

Indeed, the game can be rather tricky to navigate. The guide bot was a really neat addition, but even without that, you do know Descent from day one has a map mode that shows areas you’ve explored right?

Wait, what about D2 bothered you? Was it that stupid thief bot? If so, yeah totally agreed, that addition sucks, but the rest of D2 is awesome to me. I even got the source code and compiled it to run natively on Linux.

By the way, that damn thief bot, yeah… nothing ever brought me greater satisfaction than killing that slick fast bastard in the game!

Yes indeed, absolutely! I was able to test it on my shitty laptop for a short moment, and the graphics are absolutely amazing, even at lowest quality and resolution.

Sadly I only got like 3 frames per second on my piece of shit laptop, and I can’t afford to build a high end rig these days. ☹️

Still, an absolutely amazing game, if your hardware can properly handle it…
