In political theory liberalism is considered right-wing because it is a pro-capitalist ideology. “Liberal” is used to describe anyone somewhat progress in the US and among some others but the term is used differently by political theorists and most people outside of the US. Many academics are right-wing, most academic institutions are explicitly right wing because they are pro-capitalist even if they are more “progressive” socially. Though the students and faculty are typically much more left than the school administration.

Any group with a serious leader gets co-opted and the leader killed or imprisoned. Small underground groups of 10-20 people or fewer can do a lot. Many components of things like Patriot missiles are made in average workshops and factories with relatively little security. With a little know-how a small drone is relatively easy to construct as well.

If you asked 1000 randomly picked Americans “should the wealthy elite own your surplus labor value?” you’d find a lot more agreement with leftist views than you’d think. The ultra-right is a big chunk but it’s not the majority, the dedicated core is just well organized and most westerners are ignorant about what they are actually voting for so it appears more popular.

Like others will say there is no ethical use of it, except maybe locally on your own hardware for personal curiousity. It’s an environmental catastrophy, if it’s used more it will increase the value for companies like OpenAI whos owners want to be the feudal chiefs of a new techno-fascist society, and the more encouraged and developed it becomes, the more useful it is for surveillance companies and totalitarian states.

It’s good to point this out, I don’t drive but I forget they could probably track my bike still based on it’s distinctiveness, calling them license plate readers really does obscure the insidiousness well. I don’t think most people accept it exactly, they just don’t see any option to confront it, and are struggling with their material needs while being inundated with propaganda from every possible avenue, so it’s hard to be certain enough of anything to take action. Most people are afraid to fight against a system that could black bag them and drop them in the ocean if they wanted to. We have been told that we are under a complete panopticon and serious rebellion against it even if they don’t arrest you can cost your job, which usually means healthcare and stable housing for people in the US. The state and the rich firmly have their boot on our face.

They aren’t saying they’re giving up, we just avoid posting certain comments to avoid potential scrutiny from the surveillance panopticon.

What the LLMs can do reasonably well though is determine the political leanings of people’s typed messages, so it can sort people into lists of potential dissidents based on their risk to the state, then they can have the human agents do the framing for arrest. The AI is probably terrible at doing that consistently too, but they don’t have the personnel to do it by hand and the false positives still work to instill the fear of it.

When was the last time you heard someone mention the NSA? After Snowden’s revelations, one thing that was pointed out was you need massive storage for all of the surveillance data. Interpreting text and visual data being one of the strongest abilities of this AI, it seems obvious that this is what the real push to make it omnipresent is for. All of our data to be fed into the machine to generate lists of dissidents.
