It was worse. The difference is that now companies are making money off of scaring you with headlines so that you will click, click, click …

I started having arguments online back on Fidonet and Usenet. I’m too tired to care now.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is anybody else worried about the lack of diverse opinion here?
21·19 days agoIt’s your assumption that I’m not right. That’s fine.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is anybody else worried about the lack of diverse opinion here?
83·19 days agoThere are plenty of diverse opinions here. You just don’t recognize them as such since they’re expressed respectfully instead of polarizing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is anybody else worried about the lack of diverse opinion here?
272·19 days agoCorrect, but the troll infested discourse in other places polarize everything on purpose to sow discord in society. In Real Life people really are better at voicing different opinions without it looking like pure hatred.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is anybody else worried about the lack of diverse opinion here?
606·19 days agoYou’re just used to seeing troll factory inflamed opinions on other platforms. On ad-supported social media moderators don’t ban the trolls because “user number go up!”. On the fediverse each user is a cost so when we find bad actors we simply eject them promptly.

Europe@feddit.org•Germany's phase-out of nuclear energy 'irreversible,' says Merz
1·21 days agoGermany refuses to implement different electricity zones within the country, something we implemented because the EU told us to. In this case maybe it is Germany that should leave then?
I’m happy with my NanoKVMs
Love it. Only thing lacking is to be able to have it start with the actual break without any randomizing.

Europe@feddit.org•Germany's phase-out of nuclear energy 'irreversible,' says Merz
11·22 days agoGermany now relies heavily on our energy when renewables aren’t supplying enough which has greatly increased our prices, leading to industries having to close down here.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone else feel like fediverse (particulary Lemmy) is getting more and more quieter?
17·25 days agoMy experience is the opposite actually. I do browse All on Lemmy though just to be able to surface interesting stuff.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The same people who rage against authority love moderating communities where their ideology is the only one allowed
403·1 month agoThis is very true - I usually refer to it as “BOFH behavior”. I think it stems from many people who end up hosting or moderating feeling that they themselves have been marginalised before so “now they’re going to show them!”.
A great example is a Mastodon instance where if you don’t agree with the site’s admin they’ll block you at the server level instead of from their personal account. The belief is that if they have an opinion that opinion must then be enforced for everyone else under their control too.
I drive a Volkswagen ID.7 since soon 2 years now, had a Tesla Model 3 before that. Absolutely love the VW. It’s a “real car” with manual controls where you expect them yet all the modernities you can imagine. The AR HUD is absolutely awesome giving you all the relevant information incl. navigation where you’re looking without having to take your eyes off the road.
There’s a big screen as well though, but it’s not something you have to poke at to do regular stuff as in Teslas.

Europe@feddit.org•Obstructive sleep apnoea costs UK and US economies £137bn a year, research finds
6·1 month agoIt’s a good argument for why countries should invest in helping treat people with sleep apnea. It’s why my cost here in Sweden for mine was 70 EUR - in total. The explicit reason for why we subsidize them is that our healthcare system then will have less people coming in with heart issues (amongst other things).

Europe@feddit.org•Obstructive sleep apnoea costs UK and US economies £137bn a year, research finds
12·1 month agoGot a CPAP at 51 years of age. Probably needed it at least 15 years earlier tbh.
Amazing. 10/10. Will never sleep without now.
The only thing I know is to have it listed at Sepia. If you’re looking to have your content visible when people visit other Peertube instances I think they manually have to add yours to what they federate.
In general I still haven’t managed to get Peertube to work for “consumption”.

Europe@feddit.org•‘I don’t always agree with the methods’: Macron’s Buy European push hits Swedish resistance
9·2 months agoYeah don’t listen to us. We’re unfortunately completely locked into Microsoft and Google for some reason. Schools, public functions etc. Please ignore us and enforce this at the EU level instead.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Are you ready for a $1,000 Steam Machine? Some analysts think you should be.
0·5 months agoI built a $700 Bazzite-based Steambox with some parts used and the Steam Machine seems about par on performance and is both better looking and has additional features so … yeah

That’s really interesting. Only macOS instructions though? Seems like something that would easily run on Linux as well.
(I’d love to hook my server’s GPU into local LLM workloads otherwise only offloaded to the CPU from my main workstation when needing too much VRAM)
