  • Just to be clear, did she recommend that specific clinic? I’m not a fan of her past work but I think it’s a stretch to blame something like this directly on her.

The beauty and skincare industries have tons of claims flying around that are less-than-validated but going to a facility that uses basic precautions is probably still a good idea.

As an additional data point here, the American Academy of Dermatology Association still has a page up with more info about the procedure. It makes it clear that it’s unproven but it’s supposed to be your own blood that’s used for the procedure. It ends with a recommendation to talk to your dermatologist to decide if it’s right for you, much the same as any medical advice found online.

    From their page:

    "Few studies conducted in people

All these benefits have created high demand for a procedure that has little evidence to back it up.

Few studies have been conducted because the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t require the large, complex studies necessary for new drugs. Since PRP uses needles and a centrifuge, the FDA classifies PRP as a medical device. The rules for medical devices are less demanding."

  • This question is probably worth revisiting after 2024’s election, since Trump may still have more mileage. A second term might be more dangerous than the first was. Assuming he doesn’t win, then his legacy will mostly be all of the weird and slightly hard to measure changes to American culture, specifically conservative political culture.

He generally seems to have made more dangerous ideas popular but also to have made getting a governing coalition together to actually enact those ideas more difficult by eroding the Republican party. Bush’s foreign policy decisions seem to have been far more dangerous so I think I’d vote for Bush being the worst as of right now.

That said, Trump still has a non-zero chance of bringing real American fascism into power so that would change things.

  • “It tends to result in two large parties that must put together broadly popular coalitions in order to win.”

If you don’t mind, to what extent do you think the founders were aware of this? I know Washington made a point of warning about the dangers of political parties and then everyone else seems to have quickly hopped into the Republican/Federalist camps.

Was this seen as an unavoidable evil during the drafting, or did they think they were crafting something that would avoid parties becoming powerful?

  • Have you thought of journaling? It might help to get some of your ideas out and feel like you’re expressing yourself. You could find a template for a mental health journal specifically, or just keep a blank notebook nearby and write down any rants you feel compelled to.

For motivation, ymmv, but I think the key is to make routines and habits. If you make more things automatic with a set schedule or general time of day, it won’t take as much mental energy to keep doing it. Example, if you always go for a walk after waking up, eventually it’ll just be a box to tick instead of an actual decision that uses up your executive functioning “spoons”

And seconding the “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly” sentiment. If you can make it to 25% of something (example: got to the gym but felt too tired/awkward/nervous to actually work out), count that as a tick. Getting out of the house is worth a point too. Your best looks different every day.
