I was thinking of the system in USA, which is not uncommonly called a democracy, but it feels weird to me as the voters are so far removed from the actual election of leadership. And as stated, I suspect I’ve missed some parts there. India on the other hand, as I suspect yo’re referring to (because I’ve heard “worlds largest democracy” about it earlier) I’m even more lost but still curious, are there much protests or other kind of upset gatherings around the elections?

In the past, yes. But now the paramilitary is brought in.
