OK boys and girls who is acquiring the opiates and who is volunteering to ship the smallpox blankets? Its time to bring the US back under the colonial heel where they belong.

Shit will basically work by itself, we just gotta give it a little push.

The Sacklers handled the opioids already and China is supplying plenty of fentanyl… Even the bio-warfare is bound to be more effective than before with all the antivaxxers over there.

What are the odds he heard “rum, sodomy, and the lash” but wildly misunderstood what it meant?

It takes a special kind of psychopath to look back with fondness upon five centuries of unchecked western colonialism and imperialism and then advocate a return to those horrific days. Mass genocides across entire continents. The African slave trade. The violent subjugation and enslavement of entire populations. That is what Rubio is looking back on and sighing with nostalgia.

      Make America Great Again!

Their definition of Great doesn’t mean a positive, healthy work and lifestyle for all Americans, it means a return to military might and power, and USING IT.

We’ve always been a powerful country, but we generally preferred Teddy Roosevelt’s version: Speak softly, but carry a big stick.

But MAGAs have an entirely different mindset, which is to ruthlessly exploit every advantage until it is completely used up. What good is all that power, if you don’t wield it to increase your own greatness? Give Teddy’s Big Stick to MAGA, and they can’t resist swinging that stick, beating everybody they can reach, including their own citizens.

If you put out a bowl of candy on Halloween, with a sign that said Please Take One, a MAGA would come along and take it all, and feel good about it.

It’s so on the nose, they must know how it is perceived. Rubio stumbled at some parts of the speech, and unlike the Chinese representative he didn’t stay long for questions and left the stage somewhat insecure.

To me it seems to be a performance that doesn’t represent their real objectives. Do they have other plans and this is a distraction?

Go on and try… see if India or China are still weak enough to be dominated by the US.

(I oppose imperialism… that this idea comes up when former colonies becoming powerful is THE MAIN PROBLEM of the US is somehow fascinating, though under a ‘Everything used to be better.’ aspect understandable despite being nuts)

Five things immediately come to mind here.

    1. I cannot stress this enough: this turd does not speak for the overwhelming majority of Americans. He possibly speaks for the 1%.
    2. Colonialism is an arm of unchecked capitalism, right up there with slavery.
    3. I think this signals something in the vicinity that the super-wealthy are eager to pursue more fertile domains than milking the middle-class dry. That or people like Rubio want to be bigger players and it’s the most lucrative play available if all you have is control of a big government and military.
    4. With all the political damage that US saber-rattling has caused, it seems unlikely that entreating EU members with this talk would work… unless they’re actually talking directly to far-right parties inside those countries. Scarier still is the idea that they think that will actually bear fruit.
    5. Even if it’s not a part of a bigger play, this man is singing for his dinner, that’s for sure. I wouldn’t take this lightly, but I also would keep my powder try until this becomes a bigger deal than Greenland.

A not insignificant portion of the American population did vote a turd like that into office.

The problem runs much deeper than just a few politicians.

Of course, they are self-serving grifters, but their overwhelming electoral success comes from a deep running culture of anti-intellectualism that worships wealth above all, and will vote rich people into office not despite of them being obvious demented morons and grifters, but because of them being obvious demented morons and grifters.
