House of Cards (Final Season) sucks so much (especially the ending!) because of Kevin Spacey having to leave the show, so they rewrote the script saying his character passed away shifting the PoV into Robin Wright’s character (Claire Underwood), but the execution is poor. It felt rushed and the ratings plummeted, the final episode in particular has the worst reviews on IMDb since the ending is just garbage, like WTF was that all about?!

    Stargate Universe season 2.

I’m a huge Stargate fan but even I admit season 1 was rough. It wasn’t Stargate, it wasn’t a new thing yet, it was a weird mess and I did not have high expectations for season 2 at all. I think sadly they didn’t get their 3rd season as it was finally starting to come into it’s own and would have actually been great then. One day maybe we’ll get more Stargate but with Amazon recently canning what they were working on I’m not too hopeful.

Are you saying they shouldn’t have made season 2? Or they should have made season 3?

I agree 1 was meh and 2 was decent. 3 had potential.

Kevin Can Wait. After the long running sitcom King of Queens was off the air, they tried to basically do it over again with Kevin James. Apparently the original story was he was supposed to be a single dad with a deceased wife, however they decided to scrap the single dad thing - added a wife character at the last minute. After a very mediocre season 1, someone decides to kill the wife. Leah Remini, his wife from King of Queens, suddenly appears as a “business partner” or some crap. Season 2 begins with “it’s been over a year since mom died.” No mention of what happened. She’s just dead. Leah Remini is basically the new mom. Cancelled after season 2. Kind of hilarious how much of trainwreck of constantly retooling the show was. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Can_Wait

Star Trek Picard S2. S1 was rough but they managed to dig deeper. Casting and acting were alright; the story less so. Suffered from production during the plague, to be fair.

Helix on SyFy. Season 1 was surprisingly good. Almost a hidden gem. They waited to see that season 1 was successful before picking up season 2 so most of the cast, and I presume original writers, and season 2 was a trainwreck.

Anyone remember Due South? It was a comedy crime drama about a Canadian Mountie trying to track down his father’s killer.

It got cancelled, but the fans protested and it was rescued at the last minute. The problem was there were a couple of significant changes to the characters and the whole thing felt off, like it was in an alternative universe… except they quite clearly implied that it was the same one and they wrote at least one of the changes into the plot, contributing to the discomfort. They never explained the wolf clearly being different though.

A similar thing happened between seasons with a more obscure show called WPC 56 about a policewoman in 1950s England, but that was clearly due to budget cuts rather than outright cancellation.

Then there’s Red Dwarf series VII, which proved that more money is not always a good thing. It was a hard left turn that upset a lot of fans.

… and I’m sure a lot of people will say the same about what’s happened to and in Doctor Who over the decades the show’s been running.
