Years ago I bought a canoe, the ropes had several of these knots. I have never been able to replicate them (granted I have not tried a lot either).

Not sure how you can’t figure it out by just looking at them but in case it helps: fold to make the first loop, then wrap around, tuck through, wrap around and tuck through again. Good luck on finding out what goes where in that sentence.
