contemporaneous = existing, occurring, or originating during the same time.
social and political events that were contemporaneous with each other
contemporary = marked by characteristics of the present period
The story is old, but has importance to contemporary audiences.
current = occurring in or existing at the present time, presently elapsing, generally accepted, used, practiced, or prevalent at the moment
current needs, current ideas about education
Ok, so something not necessarily tied to the present time?
Something like: “The ancient Egyptians used copper chisels, as that was the best metal available at the time.” In that sense, you could say that those two things were indeed contemporaneous, because they occurred at the same time with one another.

I get the feeling that current might be the word you’re looking for.
I honestly get the sense that “as was then the case” might be the phrase without a word if its not contemporaneous
Thank you tho

Maybe one of those, contemporaneously seems to encapsulate “best metal as/per what was currently/then available”
