We really need a replacement for plastic though. Even after the fuel use case is gone, plastic is still widely used despite being toxic and wrecking fertility for men. Plus the plants that create it today cause terrible health issues for the surrounding communities.

I think OP was meaning inthe long term. It’s certainly made alternative energy attractive and investment there will pay off much faster.
Since when do CEOs care about the long term? They are gone yachting in 5 years.
