Scientists discovered that sleep deprivation damages a key brain circuit responsible for social memory, making it harder to recognize familiar individuals. In laboratory studies, caffeine restored communication between neurons in this pathway and reversed the memory deficits caused by lost sleep. The effect was remarkably targeted, helping the impaired circuit recover without overstimulating normal brain function.

Apparently all the coffee I’m drinking is the only thing holding me together. Well, I’m already feeling the effects of impaired memory even with that, but good to know the irreversible brain damage could be even worse, I guess.

      Same boat my man.

My wife said I was snoring a lot and made me get a sleep study.

Turns out I stop breathing and my SpO2 got down to the 70s. Basically hypoxia. Thankfully only very briefly.

But wait, there’s more! No N2 or REM sleep was recorded.

So not only do I stop breathing, I also don’t even get to the important part of sleep. I’m basically wasting my time laying there all night with my eyes shut. I wake up knowing that I “slept” but not realizing that it was horrible, worthless sleep.

Lowest SpO2 recorded was 68 for me.

Until I got my CPAP, I was literally getting more tired by sleeping. I was more energetic and attentive when I only slept ~3 hours at night.

Now any time I hear anyone complain about being tired constantly, or snoring or suffocating in their sleep, I tell them to get a sleep study done.

Funnily enough, people mostly go there because of the snoring, but the snoring isn’t dangerous part. You have to be breathing to snore! That bit of course ruins your wife’s sleep though.

I got a special type of mouthguard/nightguard/bite splint, or whatever this thing is called in English, that holds my lower jaw in front when I sleep, basically an underbite. This way, I can breath more easily, my wife says I don’t snore anymore and I don’t wake up in the middle of the night. Sleep apnea got way better. Been using it for several months now, so I don’t know what years of usage will eventually bring, but for now I’m happy.

I thought Ginkgo had no proven health benefits? I’m keeping an eye on Lion’s Mane Mushroom though.

Could be. I only remember ginkgo claims from 30 years ago and since it never crossed my path I haven’t looked into it.
