It worked in the USA too. You’d get DVDs in the snail mail, play them on your PS2, and then mail them back in a prepaid envelope.
I have so many Netflix DVDs that never got mailed back. It really didn’t seem to be a problem. They just kept sending me more.

I only had the app. The Wii was the best Netflix machine! I don’t know how they made their composite video so sharp, but it was so close to composite that I was hard pressed to tell a difference when I finally got the cord.
The Wii App Store had YouTube, Hulu and Amazon apps to.
I still have them all archived on an SD card. I don’t think any still load though.
I remember getting the network adapter for ps2. First console game I played online. Tony Hawk 3. And that’s when I realized dialup was horrible for gaming
For me it was SOCOM.
Half life, I think. It was my first “why do I need to install this extra thing to play half life?”
That was when I first installed Steam
They worked on PS2 outside of Brazil, too. They originally rented out physical media through the mail before they became a streaming service and the PS2 was perfectly capable of playing movies on DVD.
IDK if they rented games. I used a different service (RedOctane) that did, tho. I was an active subscriber when they went bankrupt; I still have the 5 DreamCast games I was renting at the time because there was nobody to send them back to. 🤣
Dreamcast was the shit. Hands down, best system.

I still remember trying the streaming service out when it first released. Oh boy was that really bad, but super interesting to think about now.
Im in the states and I specifically remember Netflix dvds and the ps2. I might be misremembering, but a good friend loved movies and had the subscription and DVD players were kind of more rare then. We would play those movies on the ps2 and I remember we would switch between that and grand theft auto.
