I’m really bad at selling people on stuff, to the point where I usually turn them away from it instead. Usually I don’t even know what to write, I’m bad at putting my opinions into words, but even when I do know, I usually end up not writing anything because of that first point.

For items purchased online only, I try to. I tend to buy on AliExpress and the photos don’t always do justice to the product. It’s very helpful to see the experiences of others when making a purchase.

Interestingly I have had many experiences which resulted in products better than expected, and if I see this trend of comments on a product I’m undecided, I’ll probably be swayed to purchase. The opposite is true when the reviews denounce a product or seller as a scam.

Other than that I will give my opinion on other products if someone asks. Say for example someone on Lemmy asked about vacuum cleaner recommendations, or wondering about a specific phone model I once had, I would chime in with my personal experience.

TLDR yes whenever possible, because you can’t always trust the seller to be honest. You need an impartial opinion.

i look into the sellers more now, since i notice alot of them dont deliver the product as promise or on time, i had to give one recently due to them not responding for a month+. and found on the sellers reviews that it is a very common theme.

Occasionally. Generally I forget I bought it and rarely am I happy or pissed off enough to go through the effort of logging in and sharing my opinion.

i do, but i generally wait months, if not longer, or year before reviewing. only when i have to return the product or its so bad i give a quick negative review.

i give review on the cc and university i went to on Yelp, and medical facility too. for medical i give a more indepth review, and others do it too, so its best to look other peoples experience before paying for the medical locations services.

only if a place/product/service/etc is exceptionally good or bad, defying normal expectations. since the former is particularly rare, it’s more often the latter, as a warning to others.

Edit: sometimes I’ll make exceptions, especially if it’s a new local business that doesn’t have many reviews yet.

Twice, one was for a Wendy’s that was right next to my first apartment. Went there like a dozen times and it was severely fucked up every time. Finally stopped going. The other one was for a car dealership that fucked me in a few different ways.

I don’t trust others’ reviews. Some people rave about a product or service and then I try it and it’s actually garbage. Or worse, you can’t really tell what’s a legit review from a customer and what’s a paid review by someone within the company. Or AI generated.

In the end, I prefer to make my own judgment call rather than trust reviews. So I don’t expect anyone to trust my reviews.

Which is kind of ironic, seeing as I write lengthy movie reviews and video game reviews. But in my defense, I do that purely as a hobby, so I can rave about something I really like (or on occasion, dislike).

I do it for fun and I don’t make money on anything I post. Which, in my opinion, makes it a more pure review because I’m not motivated by pushing a product or meeting a deadline. I’m not required to highlight certain features, push a popular trend, or promote an event or sale. I can just speak from the heart, write whatever I want, and geek out about something I personally enjoyed.

i dont think theres ai on every review. some are just astroturfing reviews, and those are almost always “positive” but almost never describe thier experience about the service in detail.

for me, i will not buy the product if the reviews have consistently 1-3 stars with the same thing describing whats wrong with it.

with locations like dentists, medical offices, i look at the negatives and then the positive and make my judgement, if they have consistent bad reviews i will not use those places. i tend to ignore 5 stars since they embellish or exaggerate alot. for schools, you have been a student long enough to give a proper review for, especially since recent times most schools are getting C- or lower reivews due to lack of opportunities, etc. i immediately ignore the ones that give political commentary to a school(almost always as calling it woke, or not christiany enough", why they dont like the school and will likely report them.

Again, I make my own judgment call. If something has tons of negative reviews, then I might read some just to get an idea what everyone’s upset about.

If it’s a common complaint about a specific thing, then I’ll decide whether that thing is a deal breaker for me, or not that important. If it’s just a bunch of random complaints, then I won’t trust any of them and make my own call.

But in general, I don’t really pay attention to reviews. I guess Steam reviews on games are pretty much the only ones I ever read, simply because they’re displayed prominently right at the top of every game’s store page. If a game is review bombed, I might read some recent reviews to see what the deal is. But I’ve definitely bought games that have tons of negative reviews, simply because people didn’t give reasonable explanations for their negative reviews.

Yes, I post a review on every product and restaurant I visit. I wish more sites let you review more than once as there are some places/products that had amazing visits at one point, but then some visits that sucked hardcore, so allowing the average visit would be nice.

Why? Because I want to share what /my/ expereience with the service was. If they screwed up, others should know. If they did amazing? Others should know. If I was in the other persons shoes, I would rather have known.

Only if other reviews are missing major context.

If a product I bought a year ago breaks, but everyone else wrote their review the day after they got it and said it was great, I’m gonna write a review telling you it might not last as long as you think, for example.
